What is Life about?

Did you here about the Grandpa and his grandson?

Grandpa said to his grandson one day, “Son, life’s about two words.”

His grandson asked, “What’s that, Grandpa?”

“Good decisions,” Grandpa replied with a nod.

“How do you make good decisions, Grandpa?” the boy asked, his eyes waiting in wonderment.

“Oh,” Grandpa paused, “that’s about one word.”

Again, his grandson asked, “What’s that?” He waited curiously for more.

“Wisdom,” Grandpa softly replied.

“How do I get wisdom, Grandpa?”

With no expression, Grandpa said, “That’s about two words, son.”

Patiently, he asked, “Two more words? What are those?”

Grandpa’s eyes were strong and soft as he gave his grandson a little smile and said, “Bad Decisions.”

Do good decisions come from good character, or does good character come from good decisions? Good character helps us to make good choices. Good character doesn’t just happen. Good choices are made from knowing what is right and wrong and wanting to make the right choices. Wanting to make the right choice comes from a heart and mind that loves God and loves others, as well ourselves. I can take time to do it right or take time to do it over.

There is more to life than making good decisions, but without making good decisions we will struggle to live our life as God designed it.

Unless I have a heart, mind, and will of love I will not make good decisions. Wisdom comes from love. God is love. If I don't know God's love and His ways of love I will not make wise or good decisions.

So what is Life really about?

Well, let's look at God's word to see if we can find the key reasons why He created us and the meaning of our life according to His word. First we can go back to creation.

Genesis 1:26-27

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

The Image of God is the likeness of His Identity, the character, the way or nature, the motive and purpose, the mind and behavior or actions, and the fruit or results. All of these are of Love. Its the way we were created to live.

He created us to know His love and to give that love to one another. Everything He created us for is so that He could love us and that we would be the manifestation of His love, thus loving Him and loving one another. Husband and Wife are God's love made manifest. His number one creation and only creation made in His image (LOVE).

Love is about giving not getting. A heart that gives is a heart of love.

If the number one commandment is "To Love" and "God is Love". We can see clearly what life is about.

Matthew 22: 36-40

Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

this is the first and great commandment.

And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

(loving your neighbor as you would like to them to love you. It doesn't mean loving oneself)

Romans 13:8-10

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

1 John 4:7-8

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

What is Love?

The definition of Love is in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

This is what love is and does. God is love. Husband and Wife were made in God’s image.

If I have not love, I am nothing.

Love suffereth long
Love is kind
Love envieth not
Love vaunteth not it self
Love is not puffed up
Love does not behave itself unseemly
Love seeketh not her own
Love is not easily provoked
Love thinketh no evil
Love rejoiceth not in inequity, but rejoiceth in the truth
Love beareth all things
Love believeth all things
Love hopeth all things
Love endureth all things

Love never faileth

(1st Corinthians 13:4-8) (Love = Charity)

(This is the marriage vow of husband and wife. A promise made is a promise kept and lived out to each other).

All good decisions are rooted in love for God and love for others. I will never make good decision if my heart, mind, and will are about self-first, self-gratification, or a motive of getting. Love is about giving not getting.

The heart of the problem is the problem of the heart. Jesus came to change our hearts from "getter" to "giver".

We were created To Love

We are created in the image of God. God is Love.

He created us to live in us (His spirit of Love gives us life).

He created us to love through us. We are made by Jesus, in Jesus, and through Jesus.
